FREEPORT, N.Y. (AP) – A limousine carrying a family home from a wedding reception was hit head-on early Saturday by an alleged drunken driver who was on the wrong side of the road, killing a seven-year-old girl and the limo driver and injuring five people, police said.

The girl, who had been a flower girl at her aunt’s wedding that night, died at the scene and the 59-year-old limo driver was killed instantly, said New York State Police Trooper M.B. McCloud. The other family members were all thrown from the car, McCloud said.

The accident occurred just after 2 a.m on the southbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

The girl’s grandparents, who also were in the car, each suffered multiple fractures to both of their legs, McCloud said. The girl’s five-year-old sister and their parents suffered minor injuries and were being treated at a local hospital. Their names were not released.

The driver of the other vehicle, a pickup truck, was Martin Heidgen, 24, of Little Rock, Ark., said Trooper Upton Walker.

Heidgen, who fractured his ankle and cut his jaw, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and was waiting to be arraigned, McCloud said. There was no telephone number listed for the last name Heidgen in Little Rock.
