AUBURN – A sinkhole forced the closure of the intersection of Broad and Mill streets Sunday.

A portion of the road caved in, creating a hazard that closed the road around 9:15 p.m. Crews from the Auburn Water Department are expected to be on the scene Monday to locate the source of the problem, which public safety officials thought could be a broken water main or sewer pipe. Police said they received no calls complaining about water pressure from that neighborhood Sunday evening.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed through the intersection until it is deemed safe. Police advise motorists to use Riverside Drive in the meantime.
