DEL RIO, Texas – Police Chief Waylon Bullard on May 27 announced the promotion of David Mercier, formerly of Lewiston.

Mercier was promoted from officer to senior officer. He also received a certificate of promotion, new Del Rio Police Department badge and rank insignia for his uniform in a brief ceremony.

Lt. Steve Webb, who supervised Mercier, spoke about the newly promoted officer.

Mercier, 30, began working for the Del Rio Police Department in September 2000. He currently serves as the auto theft detective in the criminal investigations division.

“I am truly looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Mercier said. “This is one more step toward my ultimate goal of someday becoming the chief of police of a small Texas city.”

Mercier is married to the former Alison Young and they have two children, Ashley and Austin.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mercier of Lewiston, and is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mercier of Sabattus, and Mr. and Mrs. Alyre Violette of Winterhaven Fla.
