SALEM – Salem’s fourth annual Founders Day will begin with a parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9. The theme is “Salem, You’ve Come a Long Way in 100 Years.”

A variety of activities are scheduled for the day, including a quilt, art and craft show from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church and a flower and garden show at the same time at the fire house.

Morning field activities that will start following the parade include a dunk tank, ATV events, egg runs, poker run, scavenger run. Games in the field include a fry pan throw, wheel barrow race, egg toss, three-legged race, sack race and hay bale toss.

Small fry events scheduled feature Smoky the Bear, McGruff, bean bag toss, fish pond, face painting and balloons.

A lumbering competition will include cross cut, buck saw, wood splitting and a pulp throw.

A pie-eating contest will be held at 11:30 a.m. and an auction at 1 p.m. A bean-hole bean supper with hot dogs, salads, homemade bread and desserts will be available at 5 p.m., followed by a performance with A&E Hill Country Music at the fire house.

There is still space available for vendors, and organizers are accepting donations for the auction. For more information about any of the activities or to have auction items picked up, call 678-2874.
