LISBON – The Public Works Department will begin work on phase II of the Paper Mill bicycle/pedestrian trail in August.
The latest construction will extend the 4,400-foot trail from Lisbon Community School on Mill Street through to Upland Road just before the Ricker Farm, a distance of 3,800 feet. The project is being done with a $240,000 grant from the Maine Department of Transportation and a 20-percent local match. The trail has an 8-foot paved area with 4-foot shoulders, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said, and plans are to eventually extend it through to Lisbon Village.
In other town business, construction of a new tennis court authorized by town meeting in May has been awarded to Vantage Tennis of Vermont on its low bid of $50,500.
Selectmen approved a $1,031,687 pollution control budget for 2005-06 and set the rate at $3.95 per 100 cubic feet, which has remained the same since 1998. Roland Chabot of Lewiston was awarded the contract to demolish and remove a condemned building at 39 Village St. at a cost of $7,000. A trailer on the property will be temporarily removed during the demolition and replaced on the property when the work is done.
Beginning July 13, Lisbon residents will be able to use rapid-renewal, a state online program for automobile reregistrations, Lunt said.
