MEXICO – A strawberry fest will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 9, at the Congregational Church on Main Street.

Volunteers picked strawberries to bake pies, breads, muffins and cookies. There will be a breakfast of crepes with strawberry sauce and other toppings in the Fellowship Hall. Homemade strawberry shortcake will also be on sale.

In front of the church, people will sell fresh-picked quarts of strawberries. Those who would like to reserve berries to be picked up that morning or who want more information should call 364-8603 and leave name and number.

Class meeting

RUMFORD – Members of the class of 1952 from Stephens High School will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, at the summer home of Reggie and Angie Arsenault at Roxbury Pond for the monthly luncheon. It will be potluck.

GOP meeting

BETHEL – The July meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee will be held on Tuesday, July 12, starting with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by a barbecue at 6:30 p.m. at the residence of Stanley Howe, Broad Street, across from the Bethel Inn. The barbecue will be hosted by the Bethel Republican Committee.

The speaker will be Lucas Caron, campaign manager for Sen. Olympia Snowe. Norm Ferguson, county coordinator for the recent People’s Veto Referendum to stop the borrowing, will report on that effort.

Class luncheon

RUMFORD – The Stephens High School class of 1945 luncheon will be held at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Teena’s. Call Connie for reservations.

The 60th class reunion will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, at the Madison Motel on Route 2. Send reservation fees to Theresa Vaillancourt, 16 Brown St., Mexico, ME 04257 no later than Aug. 1.

Boston trip

RUMFORD – A bus tour to Boston to see the play “Menopause” will leave Rumford on Saturday, Aug. 6. The fee is $105.

The bus will stop at the Hilltop Restaurant for dinner on the way home. Anyone with questions should call Muriel at home 562-7550, work, 364-3333.
