CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Fire’s 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday gave the Fire sole ownership of first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Fire and Revolution entered Saturday tied for first place in the conference, and for 45 minutes it looked as if the teams might be headed for a draw at Soldier Field.

After a scoreless first half, rookie defender Gonzalo Segares drove the ball past Revolution goalie Matt Reis in the 58th minute for his third goal of the season.

The loss was only New England’s (9-2-5) second the year.
