PORTLAND (AP) – Hanley Ramirez drove in four runs with a homer and a double and Kason Gabbard pitched six shutout innings as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Akron Aeros 5-0 Thursday.

Gabbard (7-7) struck out seven, walked one and allowed one single. Relievers Randy Beam, Marc Deshenes and Jim Mann pitched an inning apiece to preserve shutout. After three scoreless innings, the Sea Dogs (48-40) grabbed a 1-0 lead when David Murphy drew a leadoff walk and scored when Ramirez lined a double.

Ramirez’ homer with two aboard was the key hit as Portland scored four times in the fifth inning.

The Aeros (49-41) advanced runners to second base only twice, in the fifth and eighth innings.
