PORTLAND (AP) – Javier Herrera knocked in three runs with a homer and a bases-loaded single and Jeremy Sowers pitched six strong innings as the Akron Aeros defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 4-1 Saturday in the Eastern League.

Jim Buckley’s RBI single was the key hit as the Sea Dogs (48-42) grabbed a 1-1 lead in the second inning, but Herrera’s solo homer tied it 1-1 an inning later.

The Aeros (51-41) took command with two runs in the fourth. After two walks and an error loaded the bases, Herrera drilled a single to center that scored two.

Franklin Gutierrez opened the fifth with a double and he scampered home on Ryan Mulhern’s single.

Sowers (1-1) anchored the Akron defense, striking out four, walking one and allowing one unearned run. Edward Mujica pitched the ninth to notch his fourth save. Portland starter Jonathan Lester (7-3) took the loss.
