RUMFORD – The expansion of the Rumford Hospital Day Surgery Department is under way.

In early July workmen were insulating above the poured concrete roof and building partitions inside.

When that phase of the building program is completed, Day Surgery will boast six beds, double the previous three, as well a new handicapped accessible toilet. The unit will provide enhanced privacy for patients and more space for families to join them as they recover.

When the exterior of the unit is finished, the door onto the rear parking lot – closed since last December – will be reopened for use by employees and medical staff.

As soon as the Day Surgery space is ready for occupation, the Emergency Department will move in temporarily while its existing space is renovated and connected to the newly erected space at the front of the hospital.

The entire project is slated for completion this fall.
