PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers went ahead 4-3 in the top of the 10th on Billy Wagner’s bases-loaded walk to Jayson Werth.

Pat Burrell hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the inning off Yhency Brazoban (2-5), his first of the year.

On the next pitch, the left-handed Howard crushed his fifth homer to left-center and was mobbed by his teammates at the plate and got a face full of shaving cream near the dugout.

The suddenly streaking Phillies have won six of seven.

Wagner (3-1) earned the win, giving up a run in two innings of relief.

He loaded the bases with two walks and a double in the 10th, a rare second inning of work for him. He struck out pinch-hitter Antonio Perez looking on a full count, bringing a roar from the crowd.

Wagner, though, lost control with two outs and walked Werth on four pitches. The lead was short-lived and the Dodgers lost for the eighth time in nine games.

The Phillies left the bases loaded in the eighth when pinch-hitter Tomas Perez flied out against Steve Schmoll after the righty reliever allowed a leadoff double and hit two batters.

Brad Penny kept his cool and kept the Dodgers in the game in his six innings. Penny was ejected in the third inning of his last start last week against San Francisco for arguing a call, but bounced back nicely, striking out four of five batters in one stretch and finishing with a season-high eight strikeouts.

Staked to a 3-2 lead in the fifth, Penny allowed a two-out RBI single to Chase Utley to tie the game.

Philadelphia’s Brett Myers gave up seven hits and three runs in six innings, including Oscar Robles’ first major league homer to lead off the game.

The Phillies tied the score in the first on an RBI groundout and went ahead 2-1 in the second on Burrell’s 21st homer.

Notes: The Dodgers activated LHP Wilson Alvarez from the disabled list and sent outfielder Jason Grabowski to Triple-A Las Vegas. … The Dodgers signed 14th-round draft pick Scott Van Slyke, son of former Pirate and Cardinal Andy Van Slyke, and assigned him to the Gulf Coast League. … Phillies 3B David Bell returned to the lineup after missing the last four games with a back injury.
