PARIS – Aleksys Pike, daughter of Irene and Jack Pike, received the Secretary of State’s Eighth Grade Citizenship Award for Oxford Hills Middle School. The award was presented by Sen. David Hastings of Fryeburg at the recent school closing ceremony.

The award is presented to students throughout Maine who understand the importance of academic success, but who also recognizes the value in being a well-rounded individual. Other factors considered include leadership qualities and a willingness to get involved in the community.

Aleksys has maintained excellent grades and a good attendance record while devoting considerable time to activities outside the classroom. She plays a leadership role on the Student Council at Oxford Hills Middle School, organizing MDA school dances and other schoolwide assemblies.

Athletically, she participates in field hockey and lends her support to the softball team. Her willingness to help with school activities or lend a hand to a student in need is recognized by her teachers and peers.
