MEXICO – A Mexico police cruiser is expected to be back on the road this week after it was damaged while avoiding a collision Saturday morning.
Police Chief James Theriault said officer Roy Hodsdon was patrolling on Route 17 when a 2000 Honda driven by Phoen Phath, 19, of Lynn, Mass., attempted to pass a pickup truck driving north.
Both the truck and the 1998 Ford cruiser were driven onto the shoulders of the road to avoid a collision.
No damage was done to the pickup, but the cruiser had $400 damage to its front-end suspension.
Hodsdon was able to drive it to Roland’s Automotive in Mexico for repairs.
Theriault said the cruiser is expected to be back in use today or Wednesday.
No one was injured.
Phath was summoned on a charge of improper passing.
In other police department news, a 2003 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by Deborah E. Turbide, 62, Dixfield, sustained $3,000 damage when she was unable to avoid hitting a deer at 6 a.m. July 28.
The incident occurred as Turbide was driving west on Route 2 near Coulthard’s Pools and Spas. The injured animal went into the woods.
