Seniors meal

WILTON – SeniorsPlus will serve a fish chowder and blueberry shortcake luncheon on Friday, Aug. 5, at the center on Routes 2 and 4. Seating times are 11 and 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The meal will include fish chowder, coleslaw, biscuit, beverage and hot blueberry shortcake for $5. For seniors 60 and over, their spouses and people with disabilities, the suggested donation is $3.50. A giant yard sale will also be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center as part of the Blueberry Festival.

Club sale

NEW SHARON – The New Sharon Snow Riders Snowmobile Club will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5, 6 and 7, at the home of Marilyn and Elliot Powers, Route 2.

The next meeting of the club will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Congregational Church vestry. For more information, call 778-4015 and leave a message.

Movie showing

WELD – The weekend program at Mt. Blue State Park will include the screening of the movie, “Ice Age,” at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, in the Amphitheater.

Phoebe Legere, the Salmon Singer, and Dr. Mark Moffett, National Geographic photographer, will provide a program at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Amphitheater.

Legere is an award winning songwriter in the Acadian/Cajun/Maritime/Native American folk tradition. She plays traditional instruments from the spoons to Native American flute to the accordion. She celebrates ecology and conservation through her music and uses humor and interactive audience participation to show that the earth is a living system.

Moffett, an E.O. Wilson trained Harvard ecologist, will accompany on spoons and say a few words about the ecological interrelations of insect and fish.

Museum program

RANGELEY – “Native American Storytelling” will be the topic for the Natural Science Program from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Wilhelm Reich Museum’s outdoor classroom on Dodge Pond Road.

Mik’maq storyteller and Maine Guide Ray Reitz will share ancient tales that have been passed down through the generations. They are not just stories but teachings to help better understand the Mik’maq culture.

There will be little walking, if any, but bug spray and a bottle of water is suggested. The program will take place rain or shine. The workshop is free to all. For more information or directions, please call 864-3443.

Quartet to sing

LIVERMORE – The North Livermore Baptist Men’s Quartet will provide music at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at the church’s Meetinghouse. Vocalists Michael and Anita Linkenbach will perform on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Office closed

KINGFIELD – The Kingfield Town Office will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 9, in order for the staff to attend training on computers for central voter registration which has been mandated by the federal government.

College workshop

WILTON – Adults considering college are invited to participate in a free college-planning workshop sponsored by the Maine Educational Opportunity Center to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Wilton Career Center on Route 2E.

MEOC services include assistance in choosing a college, tutoring, personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to college, workplace and college visits, and assistance in applying for financial aid.
