WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. – Loyalsock-Mountoursville (Pennsylvania) sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring five times in the top of the second, as it went on to defeat Auburn Suburban, 9-2, in the opening game of the 2005 Senior Little League Baseball Eastern Regional at Union Field on Saturday morning.
Mike Shipman opened the second inning for Loyalsock-Montoursville with a single to left field and advanced to third when a snap throw from the catcher sailed into right field. One out later, Ryan Welker singled to left field to score Shipman for the first run of the game.
After a fielder’s choice by Mike Hanner for the second out of the inning, Luke Trick singled through the left side, moving Hanner to third. Stetts singled to left field to score Hanner.
Both runners moved up a base when the ball was bobbled in left. Chad Jacobson followed with a double to right field, scoring both runners and making it a 4-0 game. Jacobson later scored on Auburn Suburban’s third error of the inning, giving the Pennsylvania state champions a five-run cushion.
Auburn Suburban got one back in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Matt Richardson and cut the deficit to 5-2 in the fourth on Mike Muise’s RBI ground out. But Loyalsock-Montoursville plated one run in the fifth and scored three more in the sixth to put the game out of reach as Auburn Suburban committed another two errors.
Kyle Bussiere went 2-for-3 for Auburn Suburban, which will now face Gloucester, Mass., in an elimination bracket game today at 2 p.m.
