TORONTO (AP) – Vance Wilson hit a go-ahead single in the 12th inning and the Detroit Tigers ended a three-game losing streak with a 9-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.

Dmitri Young led off the inning with a single off Scott Schoeneweis (2-3) before advancing to third on Rondell White’s double. Schoeneweis walked Craig Monroe to load the bases and struck out Brandon Inge for the second out.

Wilson followed with a high chopper to third baseman Aaron Hill, who couldn’t field the ball, allowing Young to score the go-ahead run on what was ruled a single.

Vic Darensbourg (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings for the victory, and Craig Dingman got the last two outs of the 12th for his second save.

Alex Rios homered and had a career-high five hits for the Blue Jays. Rios went 5-for-5 with an intentional walk, the most hits by a Toronto player since Frank Catalanotto had six May 1, 2004, at Chicago.

The Blue Jays left 13 men on base.

The Blue Jays loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but failed to score the winning run. Corey Koskie and Rios each hit one-out singles off Franklyn German before German intentionally walked Eric Hinske to face Gregg Zaun, who struck out on a 3-2 pitch. German got Frank Catalanotto to pop out to end the threat.

Down 8-7 in the ninth, Detroit’s Omar Infante and Dmitri Young hit consecutive singles before Magglio Ordonez tied it with a sacrifice fly off Miguel Batista, who blew his fourth save of the season.

Orlando Hudson gave Toronto a 8-7 lead in the eighth with a two-run homer off Ramon Colon.

Detroit shortstop Carlos Guillen homered in the third but left the game in the seventh with a bruised left knee. He fouled a ball off his knee in the sixth.

Detroit took a 4-0 lead in the first against David Bush. Vernon Wells hit a sacrifice fly off Mike Maroth in the bottom half and Alex Rios homered in the second, cutting the lead to 4-2.

Guillen led off the third with a homer, and Placido Polanco hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-2.

Wells reached second in the bottom half on what was ruled a double after left fielder Monroe slipped while going back for the ball. Shea Hillenbrand followed with an RBI double, and Rios later hit a run-scoring single to cut the lead to 6-4.

White hit an RBI single in the fifth, but Koskie’s homer in the sixth and Reed Johnson’s RBI single cut it to 7-6.

Bush allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 4 2-3 innings, while Maroth allowed six on 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Notes: Detroit C Ivan Rodriguez served the first of his four-game suspension. Rodriguez got into an argument with umpire Ted Barrett and was ejected on July 30 in Oakland … Koskie homered for the first time since May 11, versus Kansas City. … The Blue Jays are hoping ace Roy Halladay returns from the DL next Monday against the Los Angeles Angels. On Wednesday, Halladay will pitch five innings in a simulated game as well take some fielding practice. The 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner was struck in the left shin by a line drive off the bat of Texas’ Kevin Mench on July 8.
