PARIS – A former Oxford man was sentenced to four years in prison Friday after being convicted of raping three teenage girls, impairing two of them with drugs, and illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Oxford County Superior Court Justice Roland A. Cole initially sentenced Scott Gagne, 33, of Poland to 14 years in prison on six of 14 charges, but all but four years were suspended.

When he is released on Aug. 12, 2009, Gagne is to be placed on four years probation.

Cole also ordered him to register as a sexually violent predator, and to comply with all requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Additionally, he is to pay restitution of $606 to the victims, $150 of it while incarcerated.

Probation conditions are that he have no contact with the victims or children under the age of 16, except with family members when supervised; refrain from drug or alcohol use; and take medications as prescribed.

Gagne was indicted on May 19, 2004, on testimony of Maine State Police Criminal Investigative Division Detective Jennifer King to an Oxford County grand jury.

The charges were four felony counts of gross sexual assault, three counts of felony sexual abuse of a minor, one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, three counts of felony aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, and three misdemeanor counts of furnishing liquor to a minor.

All but three of the rape charges, the gun charge, and two of the drug-furnishing charges were dropped in exchange for a guilty plea.

The indictment charges that on March 17 in Oxford, Gagne engaged in sexual acts with three girls between the ages of 14 and 15, after giving them Klonopin, an anti-anxiety drug, and alcohol.

The drug and alcohol combination substantially impaired the girls’ power to understand or control the sexual acts, the indictment stated.

Additionally, Gagne was prohibited from possessing a firearm after having been convicted of aggravated assault on Nov. 22, 1996, in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
