MEXICO – The Region 9 School of Applied Technology board Tuesday ratified a new cooperative agreement with member districts that reduces the number of board members from 12 to 11.

The agreement, to be acted on annually, outlines the duties of the board and those of the sending districts. The boards of SAD 43, SAD 44 and SAD 21 adopted the agreement, as recommended by the Region 9 board, earlier in the year.

The reduction in board members is the result of Peru joining with neighboring SAD 21. Originally, SAD 21 had two seats on the board and Peru had one. Now, SAD 21 has two seats, but the weight of those seats is nearly twice that of the previous board, bringing it almost on par with the weight of the two seats from SAD 44.

SAD 44’s two seats weigh 262 total points and SAD 21’s weigh 260 points.

SAD 43, with four seats and a total weight of 456, has the largest representation. Its weighting was slightly reduced from last year because of a lower population.

The unaffiliated towns of Hanover, Upton and Gilead each have one seat, but the weight of those seats are 12, 3 and 7, respectively.

Also on Tuesday, the board appointed Nancy Allen of Wilton as the region’s new adult and community education director. She has taught in the region’s adult education program for two years and replaces longtime director Nancy Murphy, who retired.

Michelle Roberts of Livermore Falls was hired as the new adult education teacher.
