Blood drive

WINTHROP – There will be a Community Blood Drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall, Lake Street. The drive is open to all donors and all are welcome. A form of identification is required.

Distribution day

AUBURN – Auburn AC Serve (SHARE), part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will have its Distribution Day from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance. Registrations for September also will be taken.

New and former participants in the Serve, formerly SHARE, program are welcome. For more information, call Janet at 784-2164.

Library events

MONMOUTH – Cumston Public Library upcoming activities include the following:

Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m., Special Teacher’s Choice, a visit from a local teacher. There will be a craft, making pencil holders.

Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., Pajama Storytime with bedtime stories, music and gentle stretches led by Miss Jen.

The software upgrade is almost complete. When it is done, patrons will have the ability to view the collection from home, renew and reserve books from their homes.

Non-residents are eligible for patron cards. A family card costs $10 a year. All residents/property owners of Monmouth are eligible for free patron cards.

Library hours are 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday; 1 to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 933-4788.

LIMESTONE – Donald Manning, son of Wayne and Karen Manning of Bowdoinham, has been accepted for fall enrollment as a junior at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 16 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Nancy Lindgren and Lucille Theriault; second, Mike Quinn and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus. Flight B winners were: first, Charlie Bartlett and Allie Boyer; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Katie Love and Nancy Farmer; second, Roger Briggs and Patricia Quinn; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on Aug. 17 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Leslie Buzzell and Anna Vitiello; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, Roger Briggs and Claire Lyons.
