BOSTON – The Boston Celtics signed free agent guard Will Bynum on Friday.

The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Bynum played on the Celtics’ summer league team, averaging 4.2 points and 2.7 assists in six appearances.

Bynum averaged 9.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 101 career games at Georgia Tech. He helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA championship game as a junior, and scored a tournament record 35 points in the semifinals of the ACC tournament as a senior.

Mavs sign Christie

DALLAS – Swingman Doug Christie signed with Dallas on Friday, as the Mavericks try to replace the recently released Michael Finley.

“We feel adding Doug Christie to our team is giving us the best chance to win a championship,” Dallas coach Avery Johnson said.

That’s a lot of pressure for the 35-year-old, 6-foot-6 Christie, who struggled with injuries and averaged just 6.6 points per game last year with Sacramento and Orlando.
