PORTLAND (AP) – Matt Van Der Bosch bunted home David Murphy with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Portland Sea Dogs edged the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4-3 on Friday.

With the bases loaded and one out, Van Der Bosch laid down a soft bunt toward pitcher Ryan Houston, who fielded the ball and threw home too late to catch the fleet Murphy.

The game had been tied at three since the sixth inning. Doubles by Curtis Thigpen, Miguel Negron and Ron Acuna were the key hits as the Fisher Cats (66-67) scored runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings.

Portland (72-61) capitalized on New Hampshire errors and fielding miscues to score once in the fifth and twice in the sixth.

Perfectly executed sacrifice bunts by Chad Spann advanced base runners and helped set up Portland’s first and final runs.
