AUBURN – Brittney French turned aside eight shots for the shutout, and Erin Cain provided all of the offense that the Eddies would need as Edward Little blanked Mt. Ararat 1-0 in a KVAC girls’ soccer tilt.
Cain redirected an Olivia Welch corner kick past Eagle netminder Jessica Stahl in the second half.
Mt. Ararat peppered French with 11 shots, but could not find any openings behind the Edward Little keeper.
NYA 4, St. Dom’s 2
AUBURN – Alex Mack scored a pair of first-half goals, including the game-winner, as North Yarmouth Academy edged St. Dom’s 4-2 in WMC girls’ action.
The Panthers capitalized on their chances in the first frame, scoring three unanswered goals to grab an early lead.
Katherine Gallick pulled the Saints (0-1) within one late in the first half with her second goal of the game, but NYA’s Allison Carpenter added an insurance tally in the second half to close the scoring.
Monmouth 0, Wiscasset 0
MONMOUTH – Cortney Barrett stopped 15 shots to help Monmouth salvage a 0-0 season-opening tie with Wiscasset.
The Mustangs had a goal disallowed late in the first half because Alex Gautier’s boot from 40-yards out was an indirect kick.
The Redskins had several scoring chances in the second half, but were kept off the scoreboard behind the play of Barrett and fullbacks Laura Elliot and Chelsea Grant.
Lisbon 3, Madison 0
MADISON – Freshman Kerstin Fairbanks scored the first and deciding goal of the game as Lisbon cruised to a 3-0 victory over Madison in MVC girls’ soccer action Friday.
The Greyhounds were in control of the field throughout the contest, outshooting the Bulldogs by a margin of 29-4. Freshman Angie Estes and veteran Soleil Mathieu scored the other two goals for Lisbon.
Ashley Marandola had 22 saves for Madison, while Sam Purcell turned back four for Lisbon.
Wells 1, Poland 0
POLAND – Wells found the back of the Poland net once during the game, but that was all they needed as Wells defeated Poland 1-0 in Friday’s season opener.
The Wells goal came around the five-minute mark in the second half. One of the Warrior players sent a direct kick toward the Poland goal, and the ball ricocheted off a Poland player and beat Knights goaltender Paige Piper.

Winthrop 4, Hall-Dale 0
HALLOWELL – Goalies Erika Sargent and Sarah Giampetro each took a half, and both recorded a shutout in goal for Winthrop in a 4-0 triumph over Hall-Dale in the first match of the season.
Marianne Vickerson netted the lone goal of the first half, taking a Meghan McCarthy pass and beating Bulldog goalie Alyssa Withes to put the Ramblers up 1-0.
Vickerson’s tally was all Winthrop would need for the win, but the Ramblers added three insurance goals in the second half to finish the scoring. Kristi Zimmerman scored twice, once on a pass from Kelli Lascko and the second from Brittany Gaudet. Jessica Martin finished the scoring for the Ramblers with an assist from Brianna Tupper.
St. Dom’s 3, Sacopee 2
SOUTH HIRAM – St. Dom’s survived a late two-goal rally to sweat out a season-opening 3-2 victory over Sacopee Valley.
St. Dom’s struck twice in the first half as Mary Lewis assisted on Elisha Dorso’s goal and then added her own tally.
Katie Landry’s second-half tally made it 3-0 for St. Dom’s, but the Hawks charged back on the strength of goals by Megan Donovan and Sara Lane minutes apart late in the game.
The late rally seemed to awaken the Saints’ offense, which came close to an insurance score before the game ended.
Livermore Falls 9, Georges Valley 0
LIVERMORE FALLS – Erica Gats and Taryn Flagg each notched a hat trick to propel Livermore Falls to a 9-0 shutout victory over Georges Valley in a field hockey season opener on Friday.
The Andies (1-0) dominated play, taking 15 shots on goal, while the Buccaneers (0-1) were limited to one. Becca Leclerc contributed a pair of goals for Livermore Falls.
Goalie Freya Levett was credited with six saves for Georges Valley in the loss.
Telstar 4, Mtn. Valley 0
RUMFORD – The Telstar Rebels kicked off defense of their Class C state championship title with a 4-0 victory over Mountain Valley.
Kayla Mills, Lindsay Hart, Mallory Brown, and Terra Lunney all found the back of the net from in close to the goal line as Telstar blistered Falcon goalie Kim Clark with 43 shots.
Dirigo 3, Jay 2, 2OT
DIXFIELD – Holly Knight capped off a hat trick with the game-winning tally with 3:08 to play in the second overtime as Dirigo tipped Jay 3-2.
Knight dribbled in alone from midfield and fired in the clinching score from the top of the circle as the Cougars roared back from a 2-0 deficit in the first half.
Knight scored her first two goals in the second half on passes from Sam Webster and Abby Fenstermacher to tie the game after Emily Colllier and Briana Brisaw spotted the Tigers the lead in the early going.
Gardiner 2, Mt. Blue 1
FARMINGTON – Courtney Allen broke a 1-1 tie with a goal midway through the second half, and the Tigers defense made the lead stand up in a 2-1 victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC field hockey action.
The Cougars (0-1) jumped out to an early lead as Jennifer Wallace found the back of the net 2:45 into the game. Amanda Abbott scored the equalizer for Gardiner (1-0) five minutes later, and the two teams battled back and forth until Allen’s game breaker in the second.
Mt. Blue keeper Ashley Lewia finished the game with 10 saves, while her counterpart Katie Beaulieu made 13 saves for the Tigers.
Lisbon 5, Boothbay 3
BOOTHBAY – Freshman Kelly Bourgoin will remember her first varsity goal as she scored the eventual game-winner to break a 3-3 tie in the opening minutes of the second half to lift Lisbon to a 5-3 triumph over Boothbay in MVC field hockey action Friday.
The offensive details were busy in the first half with both teams scoring three goals. Erika Merritt provided a pair of goals for the Greyhounds.
The Seahawks were paced by Ali Hartley, who scored all three goals on feeds from Caitlin Cronk.
Brunswick 3, Edw. Little 1
BRUNSWICK – Brittany Lemieux scored a pair of goals to lift Brunswick to a 3-1 victory over Edward Little in KVAC field hockey action Friday.
The Dragons (1-0) were aggressive on offense and took advantage of opportunities, scoring twice in the second half. Liz Eichinger had a goal and an assist in the winning effort.
Allison Forgues scored the lone goal for the Red Eddies (0-1).
Mary Martin had eight saves in net for Edward Little.
, while Sarah Wyman turned back 18 for Brunswick.
