POLAND – Wallace Keene, formerly of Hebron, and his wife, the former June Gagne, formerly of Poland, were honored on July 29 at a 50th wedding anniversary party at the Ramada Inn.
The event was arranged by their children, Ronald Keene and his wife, Cheryl, and Gary Keene, all of Rochester Hills, Mich. The guests of honor also helped to plan the event.
There were 90 guests at the gathering. Out of state relatives came from Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire and Tennessee, along with relatives and friends from various parts of Maine.
In the hearts of loving memory of this celebration were Eleanor Jordon, bridesmaid, Edwin Gagne, who played the accordion, Donald Gagne, who sang a song, and Richard Gagne, ring bearer. Special guests attending from the original bridal party were Ida Gagne, bridesmaid, Frederick Gagne, groomsman, Robert Gagne, groomsman, Frank Ford, best man, and Sylvia (Gagne) Jackson, maid of honor.
Their children were introduced along with their grandchildren, Ashley Keene, David Sellick and Rachel Sellick.
Dinner was a seated buffet with desert being a decorated, three-tier cake, while dinner music was provided. Ronald Keene gave a toast provided by Frank Ford, the best man, followed by the blessing before dinner.
After dinner the grandchildren presented their grandparents with a 50th anniversary white lace and promises picture frame. The children presented their parents with certificates for a hot air balloon ride, which was held Aug. 20.
The couple said a few words to each other, gave each other a piece of cake and then danced to “Look at Us” and “Unforgettable.”
The couple was married on June 18, 1955, in Poland at the Poland Community Church by the Rev. P.L. Vernon. Before coming to Maine, the couple took a seven-day eastern Caribbean cruise in celebration of their anniversary.
