LEWISTON – Ron Chicoine recently wrapped up his 10th straight title in the Lewiston Rec Tennis Men’s A’ Division singles championship, held at Franklin Courts.

Twelve players competed in the division, with Adam Wilding, Mike Burke and Tim Lacombe joining Chicoine in the semifinals. Chicoine dispatched Lacombe, 6-2, 6-1, to reach the championship, while Wilding edged Burke in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (10-4).

Chicoine needed more than two hours to shake off Wilding in the championship match, 6-2, 7-5. Wilding took Chicoine to three sets during the regular season, while Burke defeated off his mentor and eventual champion during the summer.

Lacombe dropped Burke, 7-5, 6-3, in the third-place pairing.

In the Men’s B’ Division, Michael Butler and Reynold Villedrouin will meet in the championship round. Butler, the top seed in the B-2 division, ousted Will Emerson, 6-0, 6-1. Villedrouin knocked off the B-1 regular season champ, Roger Grondin, 6-2, 7-5.

Two titles have been handed out on the women’s side. Kelly Labonte was B’ champion, with Audrey Bergeron as runner-up. Pamela Remieres won the C’ crown ahead of Iwona Cwik. The A’ semifinals remain up for grabs. Semifinal matches will feature Chantelle Lavertu against Amanda Bergeron and Christiane Villedrouin meeting Julie Bergeron. This Sunday, Lewiston Rec will sponsor a free tennis clinic from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the high school courts. All interested in learning tennis basics or hoping to improve specific aspects of their game are welcome. Balls will be provided, and a few rackets are available. Scheduled instructors include Anita Murphy, Ron and Calvin Chicoine, Michael Butler, Will Emerson and Tim Lacombe.
