AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library, currently housed at the Auburn Mall, has begun its fall program season, with preschool story times at 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday through Dec. 7. Young children with an adult will share picture books, finger plays, songs, rhymes and friendship.

Baby’s Night Out is a lap-sit program from babies through 24 months and their caregivers, meeting the first and third Thursday of each month from 6 to 6:20 p.m. Participants share board book stories, songs, clapping rhymes and flannel board stars. The program will start Sept. 15.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m., children in grades two through six may decorate a canvas book bag with a special pocket just right for a library card. Space is limited; visit or phone to register.

The library is hosting a new book discussion group for middle graders and a parent or other adult. The “Determined Readers” group meets monthly; discussions are led by family pairs. On Friday, Sept. 16, at 4:30 p.m. the “BFG” by Roald Dahl will be discussed. All youngsters between 9 and 12 years and a parent are welcome to join the group. Light refreshments are provided. Judy D’Amour will present Saturday Stories 10 a.m. every third Saturday. On Sept. 17, she will read “Ten Red Apples” by Pat Hutchins and “Borreguita and the Coyote” by Verna Aardema. Children may make a paper bag sheep puppet to take home. All are welcome.
