FARMINGTON – Registrations are being taken for kindergarten students ages 5 and 6, who would like to take part in the Recreation Department’s entry level soccer program, prep soccer.

The noncompetitive format introduced 30 youngsters last year to the sport of soccer in a pressure-free atmosphere. Held at the UMF soccer fields and Hippach Field, the six-week program will concentrate solely on teaching the elementary skills of soccer.

There will be no roster assignments, no playing schedules to follow and no trophies to win. Children will leran about the sport and practice fundamentals through games, drills and exercises and short pickup scrimmages.

The group will meet at 12:30 p.m. each Sunday for practices. If the turnout for the program is heavy, the participants will be split into two groups with one meeting at 12:30 and the other at 2:15 p.m.

This fall the program will be under the guidance of Mt. Blue High School senior, Lisa Hartung. Registration deadline is 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Community Center. Practices will begin Sunday, Sept. 11, at UMF’s Prescott Field.

Registration fee is $20 for Farmington with an additional $5 non-resident fee. Registration forms are available at the Farmington Recreation Department. Registrations will not be taken over the phone but for more information, call 778-3464 oar 778-3444.
