PORTLAND (AP) – Chad Spann blasted a two-run homer, snapping a 2-2 tie to lead the Portland Sea Dogs past the Trenton Thunder 5-2 Thursday.

Scott Youngbauer tripled, homered and had two RBI as the Sea Dogs seized a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series in the Eastern League’s Northern Division playoffs.

Melky Cabrera knocked a two-run homer for the Thunder. The Sea Dogs grabbed an early lead when Youngbauer tripled and scored in the first inning and homered in the third.

Cabrera’s two-run shot tied it in the fourth.

Jeremy West led off Portland’s sixth by walking. Two batters later, Spann drilled starting pitcher Matt DeSalvo’s 3-2 slider into the left center-field scoreboard for his second game-winning homer in two days. Youngbauer’s sacrifice fly plated Portland*s final run in the eighth.

Portland reliever Randy Beam collected his second win in two nights, while DeSalvo suffered the loss.
