CHICAGO (AP) – Bartolo Colon won his eighth straight decision to become the American League’s first 19-game winner and Garret Anderson backed him with a three-run homer, leading the Los Angeles Angels over the Chicago White Sox 10-5 Saturday.

Questionable for the start because of tightness in his lower back, Colon (19-6) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, throwing 111 pitches. He is 8-0 in 10 starts since losing to Minnesota on July 16.

The Angels, who began the day with a one-game lead over second-place Oakland in the AL West, won their second straight over the White Sox.

Jon Garland (17-9) failed to hold a two-run lead and gave up seven runs and eight hits in six innings, his ERA rising from 3.28 to 3.51. He is 9-9 with two no-decisions since winning his first eight starts.

It was the second straight poor performance by a White Sox starter. On Friday, Mark Buehrle gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings.

The Angels tied it 2-all in the third when Jose Molina hit an RBI double and scored on Orlando Cabrera’s single, and Steve Finley hit a solo homer in the fourth. Anderson’s homer boosted the margin to 6-2 in the fifth.

Jeff DaVanon hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and the Angels got three more runs in the seventh off David Sanders. Chone Figgins hit a leadoff homer and Anderson had an RBI double – Cabrera appeared to be tagged out by catcher A.J. Pierzynski but was called save by plate umpire Dan Iassogna, triggering arguments from Pierzynski and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. Valdimir Guerrero added a sacrifice fly.

Aaron Rowand hit an RBI single in the first. Juan Uribe doubled in the second and Colon walked three straight batters, forcing in a run.

Notes: Los Angeles has won two in a row on the road after losing six straight. … The Angels took a 5-4 lead in the season series. … Chicago’s Joe Crede stopped an 0-for-22 skid with a double in the seventh and added an RBI single in the eighth. He was activated from the 15-day DL (broken right middle finger) before the game.
