DENVER (AP) – Troy Glaus hit his 32nd homer and drove in two runs, Shawn Green had three hits and a home run, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 Saturday night.

Kelly Stinnett and Chad Tracy also connected for the Diamondbacks. Conor Jackson added a two-run single.

Claudio Vargas (9-8) allowed five runs and eight hits in 6 2-3 innings to win for the fifth time in seven decisions. Vargas was claimed off waivers from the Washington Nationals on June 3 and is 9-5 since coming to the Diamondbacks.

Jose Valverde got the final four outs for his seventh save in nine chances.

Zach Day (1-3) worked the first five innings, allowing six runs and nine hits. Cory Sullivan hit his third home run of the year for the Rockies, who lost their fourth straight.

Colorado took a 2-0 lead on Sullivan’s two-run homer in the first inning. Glaus and Green homered on consecutive pitches in the second to tie it at 2.

The Diamondbacks took a 5-2 lead with a three-run third. Craig Counsell tripled and scored on an infield single by Glaus, and Jackson drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single.

Arizona added an unearned run in the fourth when Clint Barmes booted Glaus’ grounder behind the bag at second, allowing Vargas to score.

The Rockies closed to 6-5 in the seventh with five consecutive two-out hits, including run-scoring singles by Luis Gonzalez, pinch-hitter Jorge Piedra and Barmes.

Stinnett and Tracy each hit solo home runs off David Cortes in the eighth inning.

Notes: The Diamondbacks hit back-to-back homers for the ninth time this year. … Day hasn’t won since April 20. … Atkins has a 15-game hitting streak.
