BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College is offering several courses in September, including the following:
“Exploring the Neo-Conservative Agenda”: Led by Dorothy Dunton, participants will share ideas on the political topic as they attempt to understand the neo-conservative philosophy. Classes will be held at the Garland Chapel of West Parish Congregational Church, Church Street, from 1 to 3 p.m. for four Mondays beginning Sept. 19. Fee is $25.
“On the Mollyockett Trail”: It is a workshop for people who have an interest in expressing themselves in writing, have a curiosity, a willingness to experiment and a sense of humor. Leader Pat Stewart will use her book, “Mollyockett,” as a text and share her experiences in writing. Classes will be held at the Bethel Historical Society Moses Mason House, Broad Street, from 1 to 3 p.m. for three Tuesdays beginning Sept. 20. Fee is $20.
“Painting with Watercolors”: Artist Jo Baker will hold classes in her studio at 761 Sunday River Road, Newry. Class is limited to six students to guarantee personal attention and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon four Wednesdays beginning Sept. 21. Fee is $25.
“Henry and Ralph”: Class members led by Bonnie Pooley will examine the works and contributions of America’s two most famous Transcendentalists, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. Classes will be held in the McLaughlin Building at Gould Academy, from 1 to 3 p.m. for four Wednesdays beginning Sept. 21. Fee is $25.
“Love and Relationships”: Burt DeFrees will lead participants in an exploration of the stability of love and relationships using “Romeo and Juliet” as a starting point. Historical fact, gossip and participants’ own experiences will be used to engage in a discussion and perhaps the creation of a short dramatic reading. Classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. six Wednesdays beginning Sept. 21. Participants will be notified of the class location before the first class. Fee is $35.
“Historical Research Aids”: Jane Hosterman will give an overview of the Bethel Historical Society’s research materials, tell how to access them and give a tour the research library. Session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Moses Mason House. Free.
College members and those interested in joining may learn more about these and other fall classes, and register for them, at the annual meeting from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the West Parish Congregational Church.
