DURHAM – Shannon Mitchell, a four-year member of the Brunswick High School golf team, has been awarded the 2005 Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association scholarship.

Mitchell is a freshman at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., where she plans to study golf management. She was a tri-captain at Brunswick last fall, helping lead the undefeated Dragons to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship.

She was the 2003 state girls’ champion and a two-time Junior Maine State Golf Association girls’ champion. The three-sport letter winner also participated in cheering and lacrosse.

The SMWGA scholarship is awarded each year to a woman in southern Maine who has demonstrated an interest in golf and is furthering her education. Applicants are selected based on level of interest and participation in golf, scholastic achievement and involvement in community activities.
