North Dartmouth, MA – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s soccer team scored a goal in each half and blanked St. Joseph’s 2-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Lee Soares opened the scoring for the Corsairs (3-3). After picking up a pass from Dennis Toomey, he beat St. Joseph’s (1-4-1) keeper Brian White to make it 1-0. Thomas DeMiranda made it 2-0 after picking up a cross from Jon Hafer.
Adam Rolfe made four saves for the shutout. White was credited with four saves for the Monks, who were out shot, 14-6.
Bowdoin 3, Southern Maine 0
BRUNSWICK – The Bowdoin College men’s soccer team received goals from three different players Tuesday as they powered past the University of Southern Maine. Andrew Russo, Simon Parsons and Nick Figueiredo all tallied goals for the Polar Bears (4-0-0). Nathan Lovitz and Greg Levin combined for two saves in net.
Chris Willard and Joel Costigan combined for 13 saves in net for the Huskies (1-4-1).
Women’s soccer
Bates 1, Bowdoin 0
LEWISTON – Molly Wagner found the back of the net with under two minutes remaining in the first half to lift Bates to a 1-0 victory over Bowdoin in collegiate women’s soccer action Tuesday.
Wagner’s unassisted goal was her second of the season.
Tough defense and solid goalie performances kept the match tight throughout the contest. Nini Spalding recorded four saves for the Bobcats (2-1-0), while Anna Shapell turned away four shots in net for the Polar Bears (3-1-0). Bowdoin had the advantage in shots on goal, with 11 of their 16 total in the second half, but failed to slip one past Spalding.
St. Joseph’s 6, Emmanuel 5
STANDISH – Megan Willette drilled a penalty shot past keeper Laura Irwin in the 88th minute of play to secure a 6-5 St. Joseph’s win over Emmanuel Tuesday.
Emmanuel struck first with Jessica Steverman. Danielle McLaughlin answered back for the St. Joseph’s cause just :24 later. Erin Kelly have the Saints (1-5) an edge as she scored her first of three goals. Willette took back the lead for the Lady Monks (4-2) in the next minute of play and added to the lead with her second goal off an assist from Karla Emerson.
Katie Jordan and Caitlin Foley each added a goal to give St. Joseph’s a 5-2 advantage at the half. Melissa Cromwell started an Emmanuel comeback, scoring with :58 to go in the first half. The Saints came out strong in the second half as Erin Kelly notched two goals to even the match at 5-5 before Willette’s game-winning penalty kick.
