VFW meeting

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, 1675 Lisbon St.

Members will discuss Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, Poppy sales, district meeting and membership. The VFW Post is accepting new membership. Dues are $15 a year.

Church speaker

LEWISTON – The Rev. Gerald Mayhan will speak at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the First Assembly of God, 70 Hogan Rd. He will share how God has worked in his life.

Mayhan was drafted into the military and served in the Vietnam war where he began to take the drugs that controlled his life for the next 18 years and almost destroyed his marriage. In 1989 he entered the Teen Challenge Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation program and his life was turned around.

Mayhan and his wife are members of the First Assembly of God in Alexandria, Va. He also serves on the executive board of directors for the Teen Challenge Ministry in Capitol Heights, Md. He is also involved in prison ministry, in the United States and abroad.

The public is invited to the services.

Cemetery cleanup

GREENE – The Valley Cemetery Association of Greene requests that all spring and summer flower arrangements, baskets or anything that people do not want to be discarded be removed by Thursday, Oct. 15, prior to fall clean-up.

Birthday noted

MECHANIC FALLS – Marie Tremblay celebrated her 80th birthday on Sept. 1. She resides at Main Street, a facility run by John F. Murphy Homes Inc. Tremblay celebrated with friends and staff.
