LEWISTON – The L/A Memory Walk Committee is preparing for the ninth annual walk to be held on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Walkers and volunteers are still needed to make it a success. Call 784-0108 or 524-3455 for more information about starting a team or participating in the walk, to be held at Pettingill School on College Street. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m.

There are more than 4.5 million people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and that number is growing.

The L/A Memory Walk supports needed services in the state. Martindale Country Club of Auburn recently hosted a golf tournament, with proceeds being directed to the L/A walk.

The L-A mayors will hold a joint meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Lewiston City Hall to proclaim that day in support of the victims of Alzheimer’s Disease. It is open to the public.

Committee members include Virginia Starbird, Turner Head Start; Karen Girard, d’Youville Pavilion; Linda Painchaud and Candace Greenwood, Marshwood; Anna Camire, d’Youville Pavilion; John Mauro, Crusader Tomato; Joline Richard, Isaacson and Raymond; Joe McGovern, White Rock Distilleries; Richard Vallee, Knights of Columbus; Linda Green, Clover; and, Tracy Handler, Montello.
