LISBON – Coombs Mountfort Post 158, American Legion, and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the post home on Webster Street.

Catholic retreat

AUBURN – A retreat, “Response to God’s Call,” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 27 to 29, sponsored by the Auburn Catholic Community Parishes.

The retreat will focus on people’s response to God’s call to spiritual development in self, community and church.

Session one will be at St. Philip’s Church with the Rev. John Skehan; session two, Sacred Heart Church, Frank Dillon; and session three, St. Louis Church, Bishop Richard Malone.

Support speaker

LEWISTON – “What Works for People with Substance Abuse Problems?” will be the topic of a program set for the Wednesday, Sept. 28, meeting of the Central Maine Medical Center Cancer Wellness and Support Group.

John Libby, a licensed clinical social worker at CMMC, will lead a discussion about what motivates people to change and how others can help in that process.

Libby has a background in working with substance abuse, as well as outreach with homeless and mentally ill persons, corrections and child welfare.

The program will be offered from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the conference room at the Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center at CMMC.

The support group is open to people living with cancer, as well as their spouses/partners, family members and caregivers.There is no fee. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call Kerry Irish at 795-7118.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 20 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Martine Begert; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Anna Vitiello; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; tied at fifth, Ron Reynolds and Ray Sirois with Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren.

Winners in Flight B were: first, Roger Briggs and Charles Bartlett; second, Anita Perrier and Helen Little. Winners in Flight C were Anita Perrier and Helen Little.

The quarterly club championship game will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on Sept. 21 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Patricia Garcia and Martine Begert; second, Ron and Connie Reynolds; third, Ray Sirois and Mary Leahey. Flight B winners were Larry Fortier and Richard Fortier.
