MEXICO – Two brothers were arrested Thursday morning and charged with aggravated assault and burglary after breaking into an apartment and siccing their pit bulls on a man.
Police Chief James Theriault said Scott Pike, 23, and Alvah Pike, 24, both of Rumford, were taken to Oxford County Jail. They are scheduled to appear in 11th District Court in Rumford on Dec. 6.
The brothers are accused of breaking into the home of Joseph Turner, 23, of Granite Street at 10:44 p.m. Wednesday. They sicced the two dogs on Turner, Theriault said.
Turner was taken to Rumford Hospital soon after midnight. He was treated for dog bites and released later in the morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The dogs are quarantined for 10 days to determine whether they have rabies, Theriault said. Their fate will be determined by a judge once the Pikes go to court.
Mexico police officer Mike Richard was assisted by several officers from the Rumford and Dixfield police departments.
Theriault said the incident is under investigation.
