JAY – The Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 and Auxiliary are sponsoring a benefit dance for the post and the John Newcomb Scholarship Fund on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the post. Music will provided by Alibi from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $ 5 a person.

Two scholarships of $500 each are given to two students who are sons, daughters, step-sons, step-daughters or grandchildren of a post member in good standing, or if deceased, was a member in good standing at time of death.

The recipients are chosen by random drawing in May from the names submitted. Two alternates are also drawn.

The winners must be full-time students and attend an accredited school. The awards are given at the beginning of the second semester.

Donations to the scholarship fund are welcome at any time. Money may be given to the fund in memory of a deceased member in lieu of flowers and the deceased member’s name will be placed on the memorial plaque.

Anyone giving a gift of $50 or more to the fund will have their name recorded on a plaque to be hung in the post home. For more information, call the post at 897-5112.
