LEWISTON – Two people were injured early Sunday morning when a contracted newspaper delivery driver backed into them near the Sun Journal loading dock off Ash Street, according to the police report.

Catherine Lajoie, 47, 44 Birch St., Lewiston, and Thomas Dahlberg, 58, 32 Horton St., Lewiston, were each taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of injuries.

The two part-time Sun Journal employees suffered cuts and bruises. They were discharged from the hospital after being treated, said their supervisor, Bill McCarthy.

Stuart Bailey, 44, 36 College St., Lewiston, was the driver of the 1993 Chevy four-door that backed into the pair as they were standing in front of the loading dock at about 3 a.m. Sunday waiting for their turn to load papers. Bailey also was positioning his car to pick up a load of Sunday newspapers for delivery. He’s an independently contracted motor route carrier.

Bailey told police he didn’t see the two pedestrians.
