KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Wizards saw a two-goal lead evaporate, and with it their fourth-place standing in the MLS East in a 2-2 tie with the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

The draw, combined with the MetroStars’ victory over D.C. United in Washington, allowed the MetroStars to pull even with the Wizards (11-9-11) with 44 points and tied for the final playoff position in the conference.

Both teams have one game remaining: the Wizards at FC Dallas next Saturday, while the MetroStars at Chivas USA.

New England, 16-7-8 with 56 points, clinched the conference race.

The Wizards rushed to a 2-0 lead late in the first half behind goals by Josh Wolff and Jimmy Conrad.

But Jose Cancela scored on a free kick 2 minutes after Conrad’s goal, closing the gap to one.

In the 59th minute, Clint Dempsey received a pass from Khano Smith deep in the Wizards’ penalty area, and his shot went cleanly through the legs of goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi for the equalizer.
