STORRS, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut quarterback Matt Bonislawski will miss 6-8 weeks because of a broken collarbone he suffered in UConn’s 26-7 win over Syracuse on Friday night.

He was scheduled have surgery on Sunday, team officials said.

The junior, out of Natrona Heights, Pa., took several hard hits in the first quarter while engineering UConn’s first scoring drive but continued to stay in the game for several plays.

“That shows his toughness,” coach Randy Edsall said. “He hurt it early in the game, but he stayed in because of his attitude and commitment to his teammates.”

Bonislawski left the game with 53 yards rushing on four carries.

Freshman D.J. Hernandez, who took over for Bonislawski, will start for the Huskies against Cincinnati on Saturday.
