Smoking talk

RUMFORD – Those who has participated in smoking cessation classes in 2004-2005, or if signing up for the November cessation, are invited to a free presentation by Dr. Angella Roberts from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18.

She will discuss stress management and relaxation techniques as it pertains to tobacco use and the quitting process. To sign up, contact Stephanie Thompson at 364-7408.

Trailblazers

MEXICO – The Mexico Trailblazers will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, downstairs at the town hall. New members are welcome.

Public forum

RUMFORD – The River Valley Growth Council and River Valley Technology Center invite the public to attend an informational public forum. Center changes and direction the council and center are taking will be discussed. In addition, an update on the progress of the Fractionation Development Center will be presented.

The forum will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Tours of the facility will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. and the presentations will start at 7 p.m. followed by questions and answers.

The center is located on 60 Lowell St. behind Dunkin’ Donuts.

Alzheimer’s group

RUMFORD – The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 85 Lincoln Ave. For more information, contact Donna Landry at 364-3695.

Women meeting

RUMFORD – The women of Stephens High School class of 1948 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the River Valley Grill on Exchange Street. Call Simonne at 364-3801 if planning to attend.

PEI Night

RUMFORD – As part of St. Athanasius and St. John’s centennial celebration, a PEI Night will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the church hall. It will feature Jim Roy on the fiddle, Jody Kasregis on the piano and friends.

There will be Poutive Rawpe by Mark Belanger, Shaw by Hector Dayon and Reggie Arsenault, and homebaked beans by Doris Bourret. There will also be assorted breads and desserts. Admission is $6.

Craft fair move

BETHEL – Telstar Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Telstar Regional Middle/High School on Route 26. Crafters and artisans will offer quality goods, and there will be raffle items, face painting, balloons, baked goods and the Telstar Athletic Boosters’ lunch concession.

This is the former Crescent Park Craft fair, relocated to Telstar. Proceeds will benefit a variety of activities, equipment and scholarships for Telstar students. For more information, call the school at 824-2136. Crafters call 824-0547 to reserve a space.

Spud celebration

RUMFORD – The Acadian Society will celebrate the potato at the meeting and potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at St. Athanasius St. John Parish Center. The potato holds an important place in Acadian cooking and survival. Most dishes shared at the supper will include potatoes. The supper will be followed by a brief business meeting.

Society program

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 19, in the Municipal Building conference room, Congress Street. The program will be on “Preserving Our Own History.” A team from Scrapper’s Domain will demonstrate ways to make the past come alive.

President Bill Weston will report on the progress of reprinting copies of “A Pictorial History of Rumford/Mexico.” The meeting is open to the public for all interested in journaling their own stories.
