Grange meeting

WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will meet at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Grange Hall for refreshments. Suzanne Jacobs is chairwoman. The business meeting and program will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Special session

NEW GLOUCESTER – Androscoggin Pomona Grange will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Sabbathday Lake Grange for the purpose of conferring the fifth degree on new candidates.

Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:30. Any grange that would like to bring candidates for the degree may contact Pomona Master Wayne Sherman at 375-8842. All members and guests are welcome.

OES visitation

LISBON FALLS – Pioneer Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star, will have their official visitation with Associate Grand Matron Susan A. Gaines at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Lisbon Falls Masonic Hall. Refreshments will follow the meeting. All members are invited to attend.

Church concert

LISBON FALLS – Cornerstone will perform songs of hope and renewal for the soul from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the coffeehouse at St. Matthew’s Church, Route 196. There will be no admission, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call 576-5433.

Blood drive

GREENE – The Greene Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the fire station on Patten Road. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. For more information or to sign up, call Brenda at 946-5750 or Sherry at 946-5295.

Dog walk

BOWDOINHAM – A “Paws for a Cause” dog walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, in Bowdoinham to celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and to benefit the Coastal Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter Fund and the Teddy Fund for Emergency Medical Treatment.

The Bowdoinham Department of Recreation will host a walk at Bowdoinham’s Ridge Road Athletic Fields near the Bowdoinham Community School. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and the walk will begin at noon, rain or shine.

All dogs must be leashed, licensed, not in heat, and preferably on a Gentle Leader or other head harness, but no choke chains or prong collars. No cats or other pets are allowed.

Sign-up sheets will be available at area businesses. Prizes will be awarded for the top three participants in two categories: largest number of sponsors and most money collected. For more information, registration forms or directions, visit www.coastalhumanesociety.org or call 725-5051.

Fall festival

LISBON – The Lisbon Community School Fall Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at 33 Mill St.

There will be fun for all ages, including games, face painting, a karate demo, cake walk, mini-golf putting range, speed pitch, silent auction and food vendors. Tickets are 50 cents for each game. The event is sponsored by the school PTO.

Also available will be red, white and blue silicone “Support Katrina Relief” bracelets for adults, $2, and youth, $1. Proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Contestants needed

AUBURN – Anyone interested in becoming a contestant for the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant, to be held at the Fireside Inn, should sign up on Saturday, Nov. 5. Contestants should be single and never married, a high school graduate age 17 to 24, U.S. citizen and resident and a full-time student or full-time employee in the state. Supper, concert

TURNER – The public is invited to a supper and a concert on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Turner Village Church. The supper will be on a donation basis from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m.

The Hyssongs, a well-known southern gospel music family, will perform. Dell, Susan and Richard have appeared on television, radio and are Nashville recording artists. There will be an offering collected during the conference on a free will basis. Call 225-2258 for more information.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston and Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club held its annual club appreciation pairs game on Oct. 11 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Overall and sectional winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Lucille Theriault; second, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; third, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; fourth, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; sectional fifth, Roger Briggs and Nancy Farmer.

Flight B overall and sectional winners were: first, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Roger Briggs and Nancy Farmer. Flight C sectional winners were: first, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer; tied at second, Doug and Betty Sise with Larry Fortier and Terry Gendron.

There will be a club appreciation team game at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the center. Anyone wishing to join or make up a team should call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431. Five percent gold points are awarded to first place; the rest will be black sectional rated points for this game only.

The club also held an appreciation game on Oct. 12 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Overall winners were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Richard Balian and Marta Clements; third, John Hackett and Ray Sirois; fourth, Mike and Pat Quinn; fifth, Doug and Betty Sise.

North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, David Lock and Martine Begert; third, Ron and Connie Reynolds. East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Richard Balian and Marta Clements; second, John Hackett and Ray Sirois; third, Mike and Pat Quinn. Flight B winners were Richard Balian and Marta Clements.
