PARIS – A Lewiston man was indicted last week by an Oxford County grand jury in Paris for stealing more than $2,000 in goods from two Buckfield homes. Also taken were the remains of a cremated dog.

John Alec Esty Jr., 23, whose last known address was 214 Blake St., was charged on Oct. 12 with two Class B felony counts of burglary and two Class C felony counts of theft.

A warrant was issued for Esty, who is being held in Androscoggin County jail in Auburn. Bail was set by the Oxford County warrant at either $25,000 surety or $5,000 cash.

An arraignment date has yet to be set in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.

According to the indictment, Esty reportedly burglarized two residences in Buckfield on Aug. 4. At the first place, he is alleged to have stolen jewelry, a camera, checking information, watches, and jewelry and coin containers, for a total value of more than $1,000.

At the second home, he is charged with taking more jewelry, cash, checks and a box containing the cremation remains, all valued at more than $1,000.

The indictment also stated that Esty was previously convicted of burglary on March 23, 2001, and July 24, 2001, both in Androscoggin County Superior Court in Auburn.
