GORHAM – Freshman Sinisa Bajic scored a pair of goals, but an own-goal and a late score by the Panthers cost Southern Maine the upset over their conference rivals, settling for a 2-2 tie with Plymouth State.

Bajic scored on the rebound of a Greg Cox shot from 8-yards out in the first half, and added an unassisted goal on a low shot to the opposite post in the second.

A miscommunication by the Huskies defense resulted in an own goal in the 72nd minute, but the Panthers (9-1-3) tied the game with 1:19 remaining in the game when fullback Bryan Biederman headed in a corner kick by Chris Catatao.

Becker 3, St. Joseph’s 0

STANDISH – Elizabeth Hatheway had a hand in all of the scoring in the game, punching in one goal and assisting on two others as Becker College kept St. Joseph’s winless with a 3-0 shutout.

Hatheway set up Jenny Boggess for the game-winning goal midway through the first half, and Boggess returned the favor early in the second frame on Hatheway’s goal 1:29 into the period.

Kelsey Moody stopped 14 shots for St. Joseph.

Michelle DeSantis made eight saves to blank the host Monks (0-10).

Women’s soccer
UNE 1, Bowdoin 0

BIDDEFORD – Amanda Smith netted a historic goal in the 57th minute, the game-winning score in the University of New England’s first-ever victory over Bowdoin in women’s soccer, a 1-0 non-conference tilt.

Netminder Mallory Wilson shut down the Polar Bears despite facing 24 shots, and deflected a shot of the head of Kelsey Wilcox from in close that would have tied the game in the dying minutes of the second half. Wilson finished the game with seven saves.

Smith’s goal came after Bowdoin turned the ball over.

Katherine Popoff stopped seven shots for the Polar Bears (7-4-1).
