BOSTON (AP) – Michael Sweetney scored 16 points and Kirk Hinrich added 14, leading the Chicago Bulls to a 98-82 victory over the Boston Celtics in an exhibition game on Wednesday night.

Darius Songaila and Kasib Powell each added 11 points for the Bulls (2-3), who erased two double-digit deficits while Celtics star Paul Pierce was out of the game.

Pierce shot 7-for-12 from 3-point range and finished with 24 points in 31 minutes for the Celtics, who have one win in four preseason games.

Ricky Davis added 13 points for Boston, and Mark Blount finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bulls rallied from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter and closed within 78-74 by the end of the period. Chicago then took control with an 11-1 run in the first 7:10 of the fourth quarter.

Boston missed its first eight shots in the fourth quarter and turned the ball over five times. The Celtics finally scored on an alley-oop layup by Gerald Green with 4:50 remaining.

Pierce scored 11 of the Celtics’ first 19 points as they opened a 15-point lead in the opening period.
