DETROIT (AP) – Pavel Datsyuk, Robert Lang and Mikael Samuelsson scored power-play goals and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 3-2 on Friday night.

It was Red Wings coach Mike Babcock’s first game against his former team. He coached the Mighty Ducks in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Anaheim swept Detroit in the first round of the 2003 playoffs and went on to the Stanley Cup finals, losing to the New Jersey Devils in seven games.

Jason Woolley had two assists and Manny Legace made 23 saves for Detroit, which improved to 7-1.

Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf, with his first NHL goal, scored for the Ducks.

Datsyuk opened the scoring 4:37 into the game when he converted from the left circle. Lang made it 2-0 with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that beat Ilya Bryzgalov, who was screened by Brendan Shanahan, at 9:56.

The Ducks made it 2-1 with 2:41 remaining in the period when Selanne connected on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle.

Samuelsson’s sixth goal of the season made it 3-1 4:55 into the third period. Getzlaf scored on a power play with 12:02 left in the third period.

Notes: Captain Steve Yzerman (groin) and C Kris Draper didn’t play for Detroit. … C Sergei Fedorov (groin) and G Jean-Sebastien Giguere didn’t play for Anaheim. … It was Red Wings D Mathieu Schneider’s 1,000th NHL game.
