Fitness walk

HIRAM – SAD 55 invites residents to participate in the Fall Into Fitness Community Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at South Hiram Elementary School.

The two-mile walk will go through the community. Families are encouraged to participate. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and guides will lead walkers on the route to the finish.

The Community Walking Program is sponsored by Healthy Options Together, the local Healthy Maine Partnership.

Healthy Options Together is the Healthy Maine Partnership for the area. There are 31 Healthy Maine Partnerships in Maine and they are funded, in large part, with cigarette settlement money and other sources of health focused grant programs.

Meeting change

PARIS – The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Haskell House, East Main Street. The guild was originally set to meet at the First Congregational Church next to the house.

Join auxiliary

PARIS – Ten women were initiated on Oct. 5 into the South Paris American Legion Post 72 Auxiliary. They were Beatrice Damon, Joyce “Mary” Reid, Leora Kennison, Betty Decoteau, Diane Rolfe, Caroline Currier, Lisa Martin, Lacey Oliver, Muriel Brine and Diane Christopher.

The Auxiliary has 107 members who have paid their dues, with 16 more owing in order for the unit to achieve 100 percent membership status. Auxiliary president is Lillian Herrick.

Anyone wishing to join the Foster-Carroll Legion Post or Auxiliary may get information by calling 743-5723, or 734-6503. The groups meet on the second Wednesday of each month and perform many community services.
