RUMFORD – Police are investigating a reported sexual assault involving a teenage girl and a man.

Patrolman Douglas Maifeld said Tuesday morning that at 6 p.m. Friday, police received a report alleging that a 34-year-old man had been sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Rumford. The investigation was assigned to Detective Sgt. George Cayer.

Maifeld would not provide any other details about that case or Cayer’s other case still being investigated, which involves the alleged rape of a teenage Rumford boy. That was reported to police on Oct. 18.

In other news, police were twice sent to Mountain Valley High School on Friday.

The first time involved a reported narcotic incident at 10:30 a.m. Maifeld said a student had drug paraphernalia, a syringe. But, he added, the student claimed to have found it near school grounds at 799 Hancock St.

The other incident involved the reported theft at 1:15 p.m. of two mountain bikes, one valued at $275, the other, $25.

Maifeld said two female students were seen leaving school on the bikes, and one, a 16-year-old Mexico girl, reportedly later confessed to committing the crime with a 17-year-old Peru girl.

However, after the bikes were recovered on Highland Terrace, the owners declined to press charges.

But, because both girls left school early without permission Friday, and because the crime occurred at the school, they were suspended for three days, Maifeld added.
