BOSTON (AP) – Richard Hamilton hit a 20-foot jumper with no time remaining to give the Detroit Pistons an 82-81 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.

Tayshaun Prince, who the Celtics elected not to guard on the inbounds pass, found Hamilton just inside the 3-point arc. Hamilton got the shot off as time expired.

The Celtics (1-1) have lost seven of their last eight against the Pistons, dating to start of the 2003-04 season.

Hamilton led the Pistons with 26 points, while Chauncey Billups scored 16 and Rasheed Wallace added 15. Ben Wallace had 15 rebounds for Detroit.

After the Pistons (2-0) took an 80-79 lead on Rasheed Wallace’s putback with 16 seconds remaining, the Celtics pushed the ball up the floor and got it to Mark Blount.

He missed a shot in the paint but tipped the ball out to Delonte West, who got it back to Blount at the free throw line for the jumper that made it 81-80 with 0.8 seconds left.

Paul Pierce scored 28 points for the Celtics, 13 in the fourth quarter, while Blount added 16 points and nine rebounds.

After trailing for much of the second quarter, the Pistons opened the third quarter with a 13-5 run and took a 51-48 lead on a dunk by Hamilton.

Raef LaFrentz answered with consecutive 3-pointers, including one as the shot clock expired, to give the Celtics a 54-51 lead.

With Boston trailing 69-68 in the fourth, Pierce scored six straight points for a 74-69 lead.

The Celtics used a 27-18 run in the second quarter to take a 43-38 halftime lead.
