CANTON – Two young men allegedly involved in last month’s break-in at the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center in Canton remained behind bars in Paris on Friday afternoon.

Derek T. Lee, 20, of Mexico, and Dillon S. Auger, 19, of Canton were each arrested Tuesday on Rumford District Court warrants charging burglary. Auger turned himself in at the Jay police station; Lee was arrested by Oxford County Sgt. Timothy Holland, said Oxford County Deputy Michael Halacy on Friday. Halacy had the warrants issued on Oct. 19.

Both Lee and Auger failed to post the warrant bail of either $10,000 surety or $1,000 cash. They were taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris.

On Wednesday, jail officials took the pair to Lewiston District Court for arraignment because no judge was available in Oxford County, said Rumford District Court Clerk Darlene Richards late Friday afternoon.

Richards said neither man entered pleas, but the Lewiston judge reduced bail for Auger to $500 cash, and for Lee, to either $300 cash or $1,000 surety.

Bail conditions for both are that they not return to Victorian Villa.

Richards said a probable cause hearing has been set for both men at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 21, 2006, in Rumford District Court.

That would not stand, however, should Lee and Auger be indicted by an Oxford County grand jury in January or February. If they are indicted, both would then be arraigned in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.

Halacy said Lee and Auger are suspected of breaking a back window at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 10 to enter a garage at the Victorian Villa on Pleasant Street.

“They were seen breaking in by neighbors,” Halacy said.

Police are investigating a report of more than $1,000 worth of items missing from the garage, Halacy said.
